Overtime for Samoa electoral staff

1:27 pm on 4 November 2010

Election staff in Samoa say they have worked a lot of overtime to register new voters and voters who wish to change constituencies for next March's general election.

People leaving registration to the last minute is blamed for the Office of the Electoral Commission abandoning its nine to five work hours.

The Electoral Commissioner, Tanuvasa Isitolo, says intending voters are still present when it is time for staff to finish work.

He says they have finished work at 10pm every night for a couple of weeks now.

Registration of new voters and those wishing to transfer to vote in a different constituency closes today.
