The Tonga Law Society says it won't comment on this week's court decision to quash a perjury charge against Law Lord, Ramsay Dalgety, since the matter remains sub judice.
Lord Dalgety had been charged in relation to evidence he gave at the commission of inquiry into the Princess Ashika tragedy.
But on Monday Supreme Court judge Justice Robert Shuster quashed the charge on the grounds that the indictment was improperly signed and dated.
This is a departure from previous practice in Tonga and the Society's council held an emergency meeting yesterday to discuss its implications.
The impact of the decision could be far reaching, affecting many other cases about to come before the courts, including others arising from the ferry disaster, and the Society says it will wait for the outcome of an appeal by the Crown before commenting.
