Problems with transportation in the Cook Islands could threaten the country's November 17 general elections
The islands of the Cook group are widely scattered and difficulties have been experienced with just one ship left to service the outer islands, especially the northern group where there is a fuel shortage.
This has meant the only domestic airline, Air Rarotonga, is relying on fuel to be shipped north so it can continue normal service.
The Ministry of Justice needs to get ballot forms and boxes to the outer islands as soon as possible and Secretary Mark Short has issued a warning that there could be a crisis if transport logistics aren't sorted out within the week.
