Papua New Guinea rugby league captain Paul Aiton says he's hopeful some of his teammates might join him in the professional ranks after showing their wares on the international stage.
Cronulla hooker Aiton is the only NRL first-grade representative in the Kumuls side which competed in the Four Nations tournament alongside New Zealand, Australia and England.
The team ended their participation on Saturday with a 36-10 loss to England and Paul Aiton says the local players from Papua New Guinea have developed a lot in a short space of time.
He says there's definately potential for some of them to play professionally if they're given a chance.
"Hopefully we will get a few picked up but the ones that do go back to PNG, all the little tricks we've learnt - bit of the mental toughness about backing up cos we were down a bit after the Australian game. Little bits and pieces you learn when you're growing up in the better leagues in Australia or Super League they learn at a later age so they'll probably take that back there and just the intensity of it too."
Paul Aiton says the team has learnt and developed a lot over the past month and hopefully PNG will be able to play test matches more regularly in the future.
