Hundreds of American Samoa education staff miss out on pay tomorrow

2:40 pm on 8 November 2010

Up to 500 employees of the American Samoa Department of Education will not be receiving paychecks tomorrow when the rest of the government workforce gets paid.

The department's application for consolidated grants from the US Department of Education has still not been approved.

During the governor's radio programme yesterday, Togiola Tulafono said he would withhold the paycheck of the Director of Education and other managers of the department until everyone in the department has received a paycheck.

He said only when the leaders of the department experience what it's like to go without a paycheck will the problem be fixed.
