There is increased vigilance at French Polynesia' new major hospital after tests found bacteria that causes Legionnaires' Disease.

The bacteria was discovered last week in the water being used at the Taaone Hospital which was opened last month.

The water is now being chlorinated to fight the bacteria, with the effectiveness of the measure expected to be known within the next couple of weeks.

Legionnaires' Disease poses risks mainly for patients with auto-immune deficiencies.
