9:46 am on 9 November 2010

A major police hunt is underway in Fiji to apprehend seven remand prisoners who escaped from the holding cell at the Suva Court house yesterday afternoon.

Fiji Village online reports police Spokesperson Fred Elbourne saying the seven escaped after cutting open the grill.

According to Mr Elbourne they then fled in a black LPG taxi.

He could not confirm whether the taxi has been located.

Members of the public are urged to keep an eye out for the black LPG taxiwhich allegedly assisted the prisoners in their escape.

Fred Elbourne warns that harboring and assisting escapees is a serious offence and any one found doing so will be taken to task.
