Fletcher Construction in American Samoa plans to hire an additional 50 employees to build 33 homes under the Federal Emergency Management Agency's permanent home construction program.

The New Zealand company was awarded the contract for phase 2 of the home construction.

The company is now advertising for carpenters, block layers, plasters, painters, tile layers, reinforcing fabricators and truck drivers.

General Manager, Dean Hudson, says said they will also be subcontracting a lot of work to local construction companies and all materials will be purchased through local merchants.

He says this will be a real boost to the local economy, with the company building multiple houses at the same time in various locations.
