4:10 pm on 9 November 2010

Fiji's interim government is developing an exclusive surfing spot in the Lau Group.

The Fiji Sun reports experts have identified the waves rolling onto the reefs at tiny Weilagi Island off the main Matuku archipelago as among the best in the world.

The newspaper reports the Government has already had discussions with landowners to get the island deposited with its Land Bank Unit.

The Department of Land's senior technical officer Eroni Tokailagi confirms having talks with the landowners on his trip to the island as part of the Lau Islands Trade Show.

The island has already attracted surfers from around the world, most of whom travel to the area in private yachts.
