American Samoa's Department of Education due to be paid tomorrow

12:19 pm on 10 November 2010

Employees of American Samoa's Department of Education who missed out on their paycheques yesterday are expected to receive them tomorrow.

The American Samoa Treasurer Magalei Logovii says he is putting in a special payroll run for the missing DOE paycheques.

Some of the teachers and administrators have missed out on two pay periods and Magalei says they will also be covered under the special run on Wednesday.

The American Samoa Government Treasurer explained that funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act have been approved to cover the payroll, as money from the consolidated grants, which is the payroll source, has not been approved yet.

Magalei explained that a few technical issues need to be sorted out with the Department of Education and as soon as the Department of Human Resources finalize the paperwork, he will authorize a special run for the teachers' payroll.

Governor Togiola Tulafono has said he will withhold the paycheques of the Director of Education and all employees of the DOE central office until all employees of the department have received their paychecks,
