In retail row, Fiji police called in to protect officials

Fiji Police officers have been brought in to ensure the security of Commerce Commission officers while they are out in the field.

The Commission is threatening shopkeepers with jail if they refuse to stock certain items or charge prices above last week's Commission price order for 20 commodities.

The Commission's chairman, Dr Mahendra Reddy, has told FijiLive that the officers are mainly there to keep the officers safe.

He says the commission has received submissions from retailers on the new prices.

Retailers will find out the outcomes of their submissions and new price determinations tomorrow.
