Climate change funding reviewed by SPREP

A draft report on the future of climate change funding in the Pacific suggests a possible Pacific Regional Fund.

The document was issued by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environmental Programme, or SPREP, following a climate change meeting in the Marshall Islands last year, which identified a major issue over the region's ability to access funding.

A climate change advisor for SPREP, Espen Ronneberg, says the report reviews the future of climate financing in the Pacific region including more effective delivery.

"It also addresses some options for what would be the best solution for the region, whether we should have a stand alone fund or whether we should instead be providing the coordination role with implementation happening up at national level."
