Fiji high court judge dismisses Mahendra Chaudhry's application

7:36 pm on 19 November 2010

The Fiji high court Judge Daniel Goundar has dismissed former Prime Minister Mahendra Chaudhry's application to disqualify him from presiding over his case.

FBC News reports that Mr Chaudhry is charged under the Exchange Control Act, the Proceeds of Crime Act and the Penal Code.

He filed an application against Mr Goundar hearing the case on the grounds of apparent bias, and an interest in the outcome of the case.

The ruling states that Mr Chaudhry did not prove that Judge Goundar had an interest in the outcome of his case nor an apparent bias.
