American Samoa Veterans Affairs Clinic goes solar

10:26 am on 20 November 2010

Work is underway to get American Samoa's Veterans Affairs Clinic running on solar power.

A local company, ASMC Young, has been contracted by a United States firm, Sunwize, to install a photovoltaic system for the clinic at the old army reserve building in Tafuna.

Sunwize has been awarded seven point eight million US dollars worth of contracts by the US Department of Veterans Affairs to install 10 solar projects in 10 veterans' facilities in the territory.

ASMC, which was a major subcontractor for the new Army Reserve Centre, began work on the installation of solar panels at the clinic a week and a half ago.

The system's expected to be commissioned before the end of the month.
