Fiji cyclone warning lifted

1:42 pm on 29 November 2010

The tropical cyclone alert previously in force for parts of Fiji has been lifted.

Fiji's metservice says a tropical depression is now moving towards the southeast at about 25 km/hr away from Fiji.

It is no longer expected to pose a direct threat to Fiji.

The gale force warning for Kadavu, Vatulele, Beqa and nearby smaller islands is also cancelled.

The depression is now about 400 km south of Nadi, and close to its centre, is estimated to have winds with average speeds up to 50 kilometres an hour.

Strong winds and heavy rain are reportedly being experienced on the islands of Vatulele and Kadavu.
