A reception has been held in French Polynesia for the crew of the outrigger canoe O Tahiti Nui Freedom which had sailed from Tahiti to China.

It had taken the six-strong team, led by Hiria Ottino, 114 days to complete the voyage which was aimed at retracing the ancient Polynesians' travels.

Political leaders, including the French high commissioner, were present for the event to honour their achievement.

On arrival in China last week, a French Polynesian delegation, led by the assembly's speaker Oscar Temaru, was awaiting them.
