The owners of a new tuna cannery plant in American Samoa have hired the last of the employees still working for Chicken of the Sea Samoa Packing.
The workers were due to be laid off last week.
The Samoa Packing cannery closed down in September last year costing some 2,000 jobs, but a skeleton crew of about 15 was kept on to maintain and provide security at the facility.
Governor Togiola Tulafono said Tri Marine, which has taken over the canning business, plans to hire many local workers during construction to upgrade the facility.
If all goes according to plan, building work should get underway early next year.
