NZ Maori book hockey finals spot

12:00 pm on 10 December 2010

New Zealand Maori will have a chance to defend their title at the Oceania Pacific Cup hockey tournament in Suva, after they comfortably beat Fiji 5-0 in the first semi final on Friday.

Kahu Ripia from the Maori coaching team says they believe they're still the best team at the tournament and are looking forward to gaining some revenge on Australia Country, who beat them in round-robin play.

Australia Country can progress when they face the Fiji Presidents XI later this afternoon.

Meanwhile Papua New Guinea's womens side beat Samoa 2-0 in a fifth place playoff.

In the mens draw Fiji will play Australia Country today for a chance to qualify for a second straight grand final appearance.

The winner of that match is likely to meet two-time defending champions, New Zealand Barbarians, who just need to get past Papua New Guinea.
