Lay-offs loom in Samoa airport bagging handling rejig

12:50 pm on 10 December 2010

The Samoan airline, Polynesian Airlines, is to lay off staff when it loses ground handling work it does for Polynesian Blue next year.

Its CEO, Taua Fatu Tielu, says they will lose 40 percent of their work and lay-offs are certain because staff levels need to match the level of income.

Taua says how many of the 145 staff that will be laid off has yet to be decided.

Oceania Aviation Services Samoa will take over ground handling for Polynesian Blue at Faleolo Airport on January the 29th.
