The Friendly Islands Democratic Party in Tonga says it wants to form a government of national unity.
There are two factions vying to lead the new government with both claiming they have the numbers.
With Tonga still coming to grips with political reforms and the new administration to inherit a struggling economy, a government of national unity has been touted as a solution by a number of observers.
Now the Democrats leader, Akilisi Pohiva, says they have approached both the group of nine nobles and the independent popularly elected MPs to endorse such a plan.
"We have made it clear that we will form a cabinet of national unity, a cabinet of national unity of all representatives from the nobles and also the independent people's representatives."
