PNG speaker takes up post as acting governor general

Papua New Guinea's speaker of parliament, Jeffery Nape, has taken up his posting as acting governor-general at Government House, complying with one of the Supreme Court orders.

Mr Nape's appointment comes after last week's court ruling declaring Sir Paulias Matane's appointment as governor general null and void.

The Attorney-General, Sir Arnold Amet, has told the newspaper, The National, that Mr Nape has taken over from Paul Tiensten who had been acting since last Wednesday.

Sir Arnold says he will advise cabinet to recall parliament to appoint a new governor-general.
