Solomons government MP refused bail

The jailed Solomon Islands government MP Jimmy Lusibaea has had his court application for bail refused.

Lusibaea was recently sentenced to two years and nine months jail for charges related to violence during the ethnic tensions.

The bail application hearing was controversially adjourned last week after the Public Solicitor's Office lawyer representing Lusibaea suddenly departed Honiara to fly for Australia due to a reported health condition on Friday.

However the government said yesterday it is not yet satisfied with the stated reasons behind the lawyer's departure and claims there may have been interference.
