American Samoa cannery closing for two weeks

12:22 pm on 17 December 2010

Today is the last day of production for StarKist Samoa before the cannery in American Samoa shuts down for two weeks.

Since Tuesday the cannery has been distributing four cases of wahoo to each of its 1,530 employees.

The cannery will resume production on January the 3rd.

Most of the employees spend their holidays in Samoa however because of the downturn in the economy, some are opting to remain in the territory.

During the two week shutdown, the StarKist Samoa plant will undergo routine maintenance and annual inventories will also be carried out.
