There are predictions that the election of the speaker of the American Samoan House of Representatives may the fiercest one yet.

The vote will be on January the 3rd and observers say a winner is not clear yet.

The contest is expected to be between the current Speaker Savali Talavou Ale and Ituau Representative Archie Taotasi Soliai.

Some lawmakers say it's a tug of war right up to the day of the election and each camp has its own strategies to ensure that there are no defections.

A supporter of Mr Soliai who describes himself as a close friend of the Speaker says it's difficult to unseat the incumbent because he controls the purse strings.
