Conspiracy allegations over sacking of Solomons Electricity Authority Chairman

2:54 pm on 27 December 2010

The Solomon Islands Minister for Foreign Affairs, Peter Shanel, is denying any conspiracy over the sacking of the Electricity Authority chairman, Walton Naezon.

The Solomon Star newspaper reports the move appears to be part of trading to secure positions for favoured individuals.

It reports the Prime Minster and Finance Ministers were keen to have close associate, Laurie Chan, as the new Solomon Islands Ambassador to Taiwan.

In turn, the paper reports an unnamed Electricity Board member as saying Mr Shanel requested the chairman of the Authority be sacked.

The allegations have been denied by Mr Shanel.
