Police in New Caledonia have arrested a 19-year-old after he allegedly raped an 87-year-old woman.
Noumea's daily newspaper says the man broke into her home but noise woke the caregiver family who alerted the police.
According to the newspaper, the man was still drunk when he was questioned and charged.
It says he had known the woman who is said to have been ill.
