Solomons soccer side romps home over Tonga, Vanuatu looking to up performance

Everything went to script for Solomon Islands on Thursday as they pummeled Tonga 15-0 in their Oceania Under 17 football clash in Auckland.

Prior to the match, coach Chris Asipara had called for his side to be more clinical on attack and to improve their goal differential.

Stirker Alex Waimora listened as he netted four times to help the Solomons move up to second in Group B, behind leaders Tahiti who pipped Cook Islands 1-0 to maintain their unblemished record.

Today Group A leaders New Zealand host winless American Samoa while Vanuatu coach Wilson August says his side needs a result against Fiji if it's to stay in the playoff race.

"The two games we play we only pick up in the second 45, because the boys play not so good, so we told them that the first 45 they have to play the game that they usually play in the second half. They play similar as the boys play but we can beat them."
