Lautoka held defending champions Hekari United to a goal-less draw on Saturday to remain on course for a place in the semi finals of the Oceania Champions League.

PNG's Hekari were desperate for a win after making a stuttering start to their title defence, and also bowing out early at the FIFA Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi.

Lautoka Club President, Gurjeet Singh, says with the Fijian side having lost five players to other districts in the January transfer window he was pleasantly surprised to see his second-stringers rise to the occasion.

"We knew that they'll give us a hard time but a draw was there. We didn't have luck - we missed a number of lot of opportunities, but nevertheless I think a draw kept us maintaining the lead in the Oceania Champions League plus maintains our unbeaten record."

The next round of O-League matches is in three weeks time and Gurjeet Singh says getting maximum points from their final home fixture against Koloale FC will be crucial if they want to guarantee their place in the knockout rounds.
