Four Samoan police officers are reported to have beaten a 45-year-old mother over the ongoing investigation into her daughter's mysterious death six years ago.

According to the Sunday Samoan, Faasalafa Sione's nose was broken during questioning at the police station last Thursday and she was semi-conscious when she was later admitted to hospital.

Mrs Sione is now reported to be in a critical condition at the Tupua Tamasese Hospital in Motootua .

The paper says a uniformed police officer is at her bedside, and nobody is allowed to visit her.

When the investigation into her daughter's death began, the police went to Tiavea where they dug at certain sites looking for human bones.

At the time Mrs Sione was said to be in police custody and her husband was in prison.
