Samoa reminder about compulsory school

4:26 pm on 20 January 2011

The Education Ministry in Samoa is appealing to parents to send their children to school.

The Samoa Observer reports the message is especially targeted towards parents of young people hawking goods on the streets of Apia.

The Ministry says it will enforce the compulsory education law when the new school year starts.

The ministry's media officer, Fa'amatuainu Vasa, says a special committee has been set up to implement the law in Upolu and Savai'i.

He says the Ministry is concerned about the growing number of street vendors.
