The potential for offshore aquaculture in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas is being considered at a symposium this week.

This week two visiting businessmen have told the government that farming fish in tanks offshore could play a big part in the territory's economic recovery.

The symposium is focussing on the development and advancement of an aquaculture industry based on raising high-value fin fish species in off-shore cages.

It's been estimated that an initial investment could be as high as ten million US dollars.
