Places of worship robbed in Fiji

5:50 am on 31 January 2011

Police in Fiji are worried that thieves are now targetting places of worship in the country.

Three churches were robbed in the past few days.

Police spokesperson, Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri, told Radio Fiji that two Methodist churches were broken into and thieves took off with valuable items.

A Hindu temple also had cash and electrical items stolen.

Mr Sokomuri says the thefts show disrespect for places of worship and he urges church caretakers to ensure everything is locked away.
