PNG police chief promises no tolerance for officers who break the law

Papua New Guinea's acting police commissioner, Tony Wagambie, says there's no tolerance for errant officers, following the arrest of three mobile squad policemen for alleged sexual offences in Porgera in Enga Province.

The three policemen, from a Bulolo based squad, were arrested last week for alleged offences in June last year.

Mr Wagambie says the arrests must serve as a warning to all police that they have to be professional and law abiding.

He says he'll come down hard on any member who breaks the law.

Mr Wagambie says the arrests were the result of a special police investigations taskforce that has been working in Porgera.

So far more than six people including the three police have been arrested and charged with various sexual offences, as well as violence against women.
