College in Northern Marianas could lose its US accreditation next month

Northern Marianas College remains on show-cause status due to its continued failure to resolve deficiencies identified earlier by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges.

It has until March to resolve the deficiencies or it will lose its accreditation when the commission meets in June.

In a four-page decision relayed to the college this week, the commission president, Dr. Barbara Beno, said the College was found to be still non-compliant in three areas: autonomy from outside interference, governance, and accountability.

The College is been asked to submit a new show-cause report by March the 15th, followed by a visit of commission representatives for validation.

Dr Beno says the show-cause report must demonstrate that the College fully meets all standards and has resolved the deficiencies cited by the team.
