Japan funds Pacific Forum economic projects

1:51 pm on 5 February 2011

The Government of Japan will contribute 200,000 US dollars to the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat for two regional projects that support economic development in the region.

The acting Secretary General of the Forum says attracting investment is an ongoing challenge for Pacific island countries in the wake of the global economic crisis.

Feleti Teo says the Forum has received a growing number of requests for assistance as countries review their policy frameworks in an attempt to attract new investors, and strengthen their domestic industry.

Japan's contribution is part of its annual support to the activities of the Forum Secretariat.
