It's hoped that a Fijian Cup Football Championship being held in Auckland this week will become an annual fixture.
Four of Fiji's district teams are in New Zealand at the moment to mark the opening of a new football base in Auckland and to partake in the Fiji Cup.
The Cup is being held at the new Centre Park Sports Stadium in Mangere, a home for New Zealand's sizeable group of Fijian football players and fans.
Mohammed Imran, the man behind the project, and president of the New Zealand Fiji AFC, says the tournament is a dream come true.
"The Ba, Lautoka, Nadi and Suva teams were targeted and what we then did was engage with the local community here and we set up what we call fan clubs, so former residents of Suva, Lautoka, Nadi and Ba living in Auckland they rallied to get these teams across to Auckland to come and play in this event."
Mohammed Imran says the four visiting Fijian sides will play four local sides.
The New Zealand sides must have six Fijian players each and include a number of guest players including two Under-23 All Whites soccer players.
