A sea cucumber expert says a regional website is one way to keep stakeholders updated about the beche de mer industry.

The Secretariat of the Pacific Community's Aquaculture Adviser, Robert Jimmy, says the delicacy is popular among many Asian countries and many are willing to pay top dollar for it.

Experts gathered in Noumea for the Asia-Pacific Tropical Sea Cucumber Symposium to discuss a range of topics, from farming techniques to management practises .

Robert Jimmy says there are ongoing concerns about its sustainability, but having a website regularly updated could help people interact at any time to easily share information with each other.

"Basic information such as stock intensity, information on the market and trade and so forth could be available on the web, so that countries could get access to it and also try as a system in place available on the web where countries can try to get certain queries answered."
