Solomon Islands club Koloale still hopeful as O-League ramps up

3:25 pm on 26 February 2011

Despite a forgettable start Koloale FC enter the final stretch of the Oceania Champions League still in with a shot of qualifying for the final.

To do that they must win their remaining two matches, starting with a home encounter against defending champions Hekari United this afternoon.

Vinnie Wylie reports.

"Koloale's surprise 6-1 drubbing of Group A rivals Lauktoka three weeks ago may have been helped by an early dismissal but it's given the Solomon Islanders an unexpected shot at making the next round. Providing they beat Hekari United today and Amicale next month, Peter Eke's men need just one other result to ensure they finish atop their group."

Peter Eke says while there's still hope, his team will keep fighting.

We prepare ourselves mentally because one or two games in the SL League in here it's quite helping us to be ready for this. We must win the game and then one of them has to draw and then we can find a way to the second stage.

That Amicale, Lautoka clash is also this afternoon in Port Vila while in Group B, Auckland City host Waitakere United tomorrow.
