Cook Islands looks to support quake victims

9:02 am on 28 February 2011

Cook Islands Tourism is looking at offering all expenses paid Cook Islands holidays to 100 heroes of the Christchurch earthquake.

The tourism industry is said to be responding positively.

The proposal is still in the early stages of development and has been initiated by Cook Islands Tourism.

The Tourism minister, Teina Bishop, has lent support to the idea with a signed letter.

He says that it is difficult to know what to do in order to show solidarity, compassion and encouragement to those suffering so much.

But, he says, when the search and rescue operation is completed, there will be many exhausted heroes, and all Cook Islands will want to do what they can to assist.
