Papua New Guinea's acting Deputy Police Commissioner, Fred Yakasa, is calling on businesses, christians, women, youth and the elderly to join hands in the fight against corruption.
Mr Yakasa says the fight against graft will intensify because the trend towards theft and embezzlement within the public and private sectors is spiraling out of control.
This undertaking came after fraud investigators arrested three suspects linked to what police say was a sophisticated syndicate involved in a string of thefts.
The group allegedly impersonated a senior bureaucrat and included a former police officer.
Mr Yakasa says people need to be wary of conmen and thieves whom he said have become more daring and cunning.
He said the reported theft of five billion kina from the government over recent years is a stark illustration of the intensity of graft and corruption in PNG.
