The Solomon Islands Ministry of Finance and Treasury has reported historic earnings of more than one billion Solomon Islands dollars in revenue for 2010.

SIBC reports that Finance Minister Gordon Darcy has told a media conference the revenue, which amounts to about 130 thousand US dollars, is a significant milestone in the history of revenue administration in the country.

The Finance Minister attributes the achievement to the work done by the inland revenue division within the ministry and the tax audit department.

Mr Lilo says the government will use the revenue to provide better services, and invest in productive activities to generate more income and employment.

He says the country must now come up with a responsible fiscal policy to manage the country's wealth.
