Community leaders in Port Vila plea for better lighting after latest killing

The third alleged murder in less than a year in a suburb of Vanuatu's capital, Port Vila, has sparked fresh calls for better street lighting in the area.

22 year old Kenneth Killa was found dead in Fresh Water last week.

In April, a mother and her three-year-old daughter were killed in the same area.

None of the killings has been resolved.

A Fresh Water leader, Chief John Tarilama, says they presented a petition to municipal authorities in April last year calling for improved lighting but this has been ignored.

Chief Tarilama says local officials must act because the area is becoming more crowded and stealing and violent attacks have increased.
