The Northern Marianas government says the federal government will send radiation monitoring device to the CNMI if needed due to the situation in Japan.
But the government says at this stage Japan's nuclear crisis remains to be of no immediate threat to the commonwealth.
The acting governor, Eloy Inos, says federal agencies based in Guam stand ready to assist the CNMI if needed.
These include the National Weather Service and the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
He also adds federal bodies in Hawaii are also monitoring the situation.
Mr Inos says the CNMI has conventional biochemical testing device but not the type that's specifically for nuclear radioactive material.
