Vanuatu experiences strong quake

A strong 6.5 magnitude earthquake has struck off Vanuatu.

The United States Geologicial Survey reports the quake was at a depth of about 26 kilometres and centred 77 kilometres to the northwest of Port Vila.

The quake was experienced as a sharp jolt in the capital but so far there have been no reports of damage or injury.

No tsunami warning has been issued.
