Rail transit cars in Honolulu, Hawaii will cost over 500 million US dollars

The Honolulu Mayor has announced the rail transit cars for the city's 5-point-5 billion US dollar project will cost 574 million dollars to build.

The city said that Ansaldo Honolulu was the winning bidder to design, build, operate and maintain the system.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports that Mayor Peter Carlisle, who also announced that the contractor for the first phase of the route, Kiewit Infrastructure West Co, will also design and build the second phase, from Pearl Highlands to Aloha Stadium.

That contract will cost 372 million dollars.

Close to 1-point-6 billion in contracts has been awarded for the city rail project so far.
