Leaders of the Melanesian Spearhead Group of countries are next week expected to endorse plans for the body to set up a rapid response force.
The news agency, Pacnews, says it would help members cope with internal conflicts, international criminal activity and natural calamities, be called the MSG Humanitarian and Emergency Response Force, and need just over two million US dollars to set up.
Pacnews also reports efforts will be made to promote PNG's Camillus Narakobi, an expert in maritime and international law, to become the next head of the Forum Fisheries Agency and for a Melanesian to become the next Forum secretary general.
The leaders are also expected to discuss reviving the Melanesian Cup, a defunct football competition which brings together football teams from Fiji, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
A proposal to consider a Melanesian Games will also be put to MSG Leaders.
