The Fiji Police Commissioner, Brigadier General Iowane Naivalurua, has sacked two officers after they pleaded guilty to assaulting seven primary school children two weeks ago.

Fiji Village reports that the two, Eseroma Vakaruru and Fane Mate, were sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for 12 months.

The two had assaulted the seven students with a stick.

A police spokesperson, Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri, says the termination of their contracts shows that the Police Force is serious about these types of incidents.

He says there is a zero-tolerance policy in place for these types of cases.
