Samoa and Fiji have slipped further off the pace after the latest round of the IRB World Sevens Series in Adelaide.
New Zealand beat South Africa 28-20 in the Cup final to win their fourth tournament of the season.
They're now 13 points ahead of England, with Samoa, South Africa and Fiji rounding out the top five.
Defending champions Samoa were knocked out 33-17 by New Zealand in the Cup semi-finals, while Fiji were pipped by Wales in the Plate semis, having already lost to South Africa in the Cup quarters.
Papua New Guinea and the Cook Islands failed to win any of their five matches, while Tonga were beaten by Japan in the Shield final.
