Central bankers from the Pacific region are meeting in Fiji to undergo training on the supervision and regulation of non-bank microfinance institutions.

The event, which began in Suva today, is being hosted by the Reserve Bank of Fiji until Thursday.

The Reserve Bank's Acting Governor, Barry Whiteside, says the training will provide regional supervisors with sound conceptual understanding and practical tools for assessing and determining how best to regulate and supervise non-bank microfinance institutions.

The training will be attended by Governors from the Bank of Papua New Guinea and the Central Bank of Solomon Islands as well as representatives from Vanuatu, Samoa and East Timor.
