CNMI high students sanctioned over Ditch Day

3:11 pm on 12 April 2011

About 120 senior students at Kagman High School in the Northern Marianas are to be punished for not turning up to classes on Friday last week.

The students cut classes as part of Ditch Day - a longstanding tradition in most American and Canadian high schools but one that's not permitted in the CNMI.

Kagman's principal Alfred Ada says of the 180 seniors on the roll, 120 didn't attend classes on Friday, alarming the school's management and parents.

The students' grades have been affected and they will be required to give a full day to cleaning up the school campus.
